Discover a Layup Drill that Adds Conditioning!

Regular layup lines are generally ineffective at getting players to practice layups at game speed. If you’re looking to speed up your players and incorporate conditioning into a layup drill, look no further than this exercise from Monmouth University head coach, King Rice, who was the 2016 MAAC Coach of the Year.

Layup Drill

Drill Summary: Set up with a line of players directly underneath each hoop and a line of players on the wing. The person at the front of the line under the hoop throws the ball off the glass to themselves to simulate a rebound, then turns and breaks up the floor with the person at the front of the wing line running ahead. The rebounder/pusher gets two dribbles before they have to throw the ball ahead to their teammate for a layup. This can be done with two groups simultaneously on each basket. If you have enough managers or coaches, you can have one stand at half court so the lead pass has to be over their hands.
